BY A VOTE OF 6-2-1, SENATE BILL 512 PASSED OUT OF COMMITTEE THIS MORNING AND IS HEADED TO THE FLOOR OF THE IL  HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. THE BILL IS COSPONSORED BY HOUSE SPEAKER MADIGAN AND SENATE PRESIDENT CULLERTON.

CALL YOUR STATE SENATOR AND STATE REPRESENTATIVE TOLL FREE AT 888-412-6570 AND TELL THEM TO OPPOSE ANY PENSION CUT BILLS. IF THEY SAY THEY ARE OPPOSED, BE SURE TO SAY “THANK YOU.”

Legislation that would reduce pension benefits for participants in the TRS and SURS systems is now in play in the General Assembly.

Among the provisions of SB512:

■Forcing members to pay hundreds, if not thousands, more into their pensions each year.
■Establishing 67 as the retirement age.
■Making members of TRS and SURS, who do not qualify for social security, rely on risky retirement investment accounts for their retirement savings.
IEA firmly believes these measures would be against the Illinois constitution. It is imperative that you tell your legislators how you feel. Please take a moment to look at the links below and take action. When we speak together, our voice becomes much louder.

■Call your state senator and state representative toll free – 888-412-6570 and tell them to oppose any pension cut bills. If they say they are opposed, be sure to say, “Thank you,”
